To Fethiye

Today we have another long drive in the bus with a stop in Demre to see St. Nicolas church which is built on his grave site.

We drove along the southeastern coast of Turkey with winding roads up and over mountain ranges and beautiful turquoise water.

The church has been buried in eroded soil and badly damaged and restored/rebuilt over the years.

Nicholas gave money to struggling families anonymously often by tossing a bag of coins in a window.

He also is the patron saint of sailors, which is why you will see churches dedicated to him in coastal towns. Notice the anchor on his cross.

There are a number of frescoes in the church.

We saw the icons from the church in the museum in Antalya a few days ago.

When we arrived in Fethiye, we boarded the Gulet that we will stay on for the next four nights.

We did a little walk through the market and along the wharf. We got some Turkish ice cream (Donna will always choose pistachio).
