Gozo

Today we leave at 8:30 am for our trip to the other main Maltese island, Gozo. It is a bus ride to the north end of the island and a 20 minute ferry ride to Gozo. Then another bus took us around Gozo.

Our first stop is the UNESCO World Heritage site Ġgantija Temples. We spent some time inside the museum at the site that had some of the artifacts found here.

This pottery shard is unique in that it depicts birds. The birds look like Northern Lapwings, which migrate through Malta. We saw Northern Lapwings near Brighton, England with my sister and the twins a few weeks ago on this trip.

The stones at Ġgantija have weathered quite a bit more than at Ħaġar Qim.

The we headed to Victoria to visit the Cittadella.

There was an accident in the middle of town they were still cleaning up after, so the road was closed. We had to walk more than our guide planned.

It’s quite a climb up to the citadel, which was slow with the group, so we didn’t get much time up top.

When we came down, there was a long walk to the bus. We did pass by the Basillica of St. George, but didn’t have time to go in.

Lunch was in Xlendi a few blocks from the coast. There was enough time after lunch to go to the coast for a few minutes.
