El Djem Moasics
Then to El Djem museum which contains the mosaics from a few villas in the rich section of the Roman city of Thysdrus. The museum itself is house that was next to the archealogical site and was donated to house the mosaics.
Romans believed that the owl would ward off evil spirits. This owl was at the front door so visitors would step on it as they entered.
They have reconstructed portions of one of the largest villas and the mosaics are left in place.
They left some of the mosaics in place in the reconstructed villa.
The Romans referred to this area as Africa. This mosaic portrays the various Roman provinces as people.
