The ship arrived at 7:00 am, we got out around 8:45 am on the second tender for guests not taking a tour from the ship.
We went to the Manutea Tahiti distillery on the west side of Cook’s bay. We took a taxi the three miles over there and back. Manutea Tahiti makes juices and alcohols from fruits and sugarcane grown in the islands.
The tour through the factory is self-guided. The workers were washing the end of the production line when we toured, so there probably was a small run early in the morning.
Here’s a display of the various products made there:
They had a few pineapple plants growing in front of the factory.
We returned to the ship around 11.
Worked on puzzle for a short while and then a quick lunch then out on the e-bike tour at 12:30.
We stopped several times on the ride. First at a pineapple field.
Then at the Agricultural High School, they have a shop that sells homemade ice cream. Donna got Mango, I got Soursop, which is a fruit you don’t hear much about in the US. I’ve had soursop before in Belize.
Then a short stop at a Marae, a Polynesian meeting place, with an altar.
Belvedere Lookout looks out over Mt. Rotui and the bay on either side of it.
Then we rode back the way we came. There is a gravel road that would have gotten us back a shorter route, but it was quite muddy due to the recent rains, so we went back the way we came, along the paved coastal road.
There was a dedicated group of six people that worked on the jigsaw puzzles. We did 18 puzzles, many of them were 1000 pieces, which was quite a few more than the activity director had seen done on a 14-day cruise. Those that could make it had a group photo with the captain at 5 pm. The photo may appear on Windstar blog.
The Captain’s sail away was at 5:30 pm. They introduced the crew that are rotating off the ship tomorrow.
The sun was setting as we left Cook’s Bay for the short sail back to Pape’ete where we’ll disembark tomorrow morning.
There were some canoes practicing in the bay as we sailed away.
Supper was slow, we finished at 8pm, then packing.
