Victoria Falls

Today we have a couple extra tours booked, a trip to a private game reserve to attempt to see the last of the African Big Five animals that we haven’t seen, the rhino. Then we have a helicopter flight over the falls.

On the way out to the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve we saw some Pentecostal groups worshiping along-side the road dressed all in white.

We are going to attempt to see the black rhino. There are not that many Black Rhinos because of poaching and the government has moved them all to private game reserves that provide 24-hour armed protection for the rhinos. There are less than 10 at this reserve.

We had breakfast out in the reserve before returning to the hotel. This barbet was hanging around the breakfast area.

Shortly after returning to the hotel, we had a helicopter trip over Victoria Falls.

In the evening we had boat cruise on the Zambezi river above the falls. Our guide played with the marimba band he invited to entertain us before the cruise.

We ate our final supper together by the river after dark.

The next morning we had a lecture about David Livingston and his travels in southern Africa.

Our guide invited some members of his singing group to come over and sing for us. One of the songs they did was a mashup of the original song that Elton John heard and transformed into “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”

Then we flew to Johanesburg, South Africa and our 16-hour flight back to the USA.
