To Chobe National Park
Today we get up earlier to travel to Chobe National Park.
We fly a little less than 90 minutes back to Livingston, Zambia because we have a slight tailwind at 7500 ft.
Then we drive back across the boarder to Zimbabwe to the market in Victoria Falls, where we stop to visit it.
We had about 30 minutes to get out and walk through the market. I saw this woman using a treadle sewing machine. When I was young, my grandfather’s older sister still used a treadle sewing machine in her 80s.
A phone shopkeeper asked me where I was from as I was passing by in excellent English. After hearing I was an American, he wanted me to know that he supported Kamala Harris and that she had a connection to southern Africa. Her grandfather had served as an Indian diplomat in Zambia.
Then we cross the boarder to Botswana through Chobe National Park on the highway to the northwest part of the park. We’ll be staying at the Baobab 2 camp just outside the park.
While driving through the park, our guide saw this large male Sable along the road. We are traveling in two vans and the other one is ahead of us. One of the travelers in the other van had indicated to the guide that she wanted to see a Sable, and so he called the other van back so she could see it. It stayed by the side of the road for five minutes, just looking out at the road.
After arriving we headed out for an afternoon game drive.
We’ve seen the nests of the White-browed Sparrow-weaver, but not gotten a good photo of the bird.
Chobe National Park has wide open spaces, so animals form larger herds. We saw a herd of several hundred cape buffalo.
But there can also be isolated animals on the plain.
All the camps had an open dining area. It was often in the 60s F for supper.
