Kafue National Park Day 2
Wildlife viewing in Kafue National Park along the Kafue river and Lufupa river.
Our river guide talked about National Geographic photographers coming to the area and not seeing the African Finfoot for the several weeks they were there. We saw two in our four-hour boat tour.
There are a lot of birds along the river, some crocodiles and hippos with just the top of their head visible.
The Wire-tailed swallows were flying under the canopy of our boat looking for a nesting spot.
Coming back to our tent after lunch we saw a warthog and piglet rummaging around in the grasses outside our tent.
In the afternoon before going out again there were several presentations. There was a presentation about chitenge and the women in the group each received one and learned how to wear it.
Then there was a presentation on making peanut butter with a mortar and pestle. The mortar was 25 cm across at the top, the pestle was 4 cm in diameter and about a meter long. Throw some peanuts in the bottom and start pounding. It takes about 5-7 minutes to make peanut butter from a 1/2 cup of peanuts. There was enough for many folks to taste a small sample. The taste wasn’t very different from what we’re used to in the US.
Afterwards our guide tossed the leftover roasted peanuts with skins on them in the mortar and I ground them into peanut butter. I really liked the smoky taste from the skins.
We went out on the river again in afternoon game drive.
