Vienna Day 1
We visit Vienna the next two days. We came two days early on our 2019 on a Vienna to Amsterdam river cruise, and have seen a number of the sights in Vienna. Today, October 26, is Austria National Day. The treaty was signed in May, but the last foreign soldier left on Oct 25.
Vienna city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our walking tour started near the Danube Fountain
We passed by the Spanish Riding School which has the Lipizzaner Stallions. A few were in their stalls.
Vienna suffered during the Great Plague epidemic of 1679. There is a plague column in Grabenplatz.
We passed by a statue of Saint Leopold, the patron saint of Austria.
We walked by the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church which stands out on the narrow street. We didn’t go in.

On the other side of Michaelerplatz is the Church of St Michael.
The tour ended at St. Stephen’s Cathedral. We had some free time to go inside before the bus back to the ship for lunch.
Anton Pilgram is the architect of St. Stephen’s Cathedral. He put a self-portrait in the cathedral.
The ship is docked on the Danube near the St. Francis of Assisi Church.
We visited the Museum of Anthropology in the afternoon. There are many people in the Hofburg area for National Day making it hard to walk.
We went to a classical music concert at the Sound of Vienna in the evening.
