Quivera

We drove out there in the morning, and arrived at Quivera National Wildlife Refuge around 2 pm. We knew Western Kansas has been in a drought, but we didn’t realize the extent of the drought.

The sloughs were almost dry. We had intended to stop by Cheyenne Bottoms as well, but the ranger told us it was completely dry.

and a turtle sunning itself by the water’s edge.

We took some time to look a a little creek that drained into the big slough, it didn’t have much water in it, but we did see a water snake.

The refuge is also used by the white-tailed deer.
