Ash Meadows
Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge actually contains a small part of Death Valley National Park. Ash Meadows is a couple hour drive east of Furnace Creek, so it’s on the way home for us. The rangers at Death Valley started working to save the pupfish at Devil’s Hole in 1952.
Here is the actual Devil’s hole, you can’t see much, as the pupfish are on a submerged shelf.
There are numerous ponds with pupfish in them. These are a slightly different species than the ones in Devil’s hole as they’ve been isolated for thousands of years.
We started our drive home after our visit to Ash Meadows.
