On Sunday, August 20th, the remnants of Hurricane Hillary dropped 2.2 inches (55.88 mm) of rain at Furnace Creek, making it the all time wettest day recorded for Death Valley and breaking last year’s record of 1.7 in (43mm). While 2.2 inches may not sound like much, it is greater than the park’s annual average rainfall, 2.15 in (54.6 mm)! This caused considerable flooding damage and closed the National Park while roads were cleaned off and repaired.

We saw an article talking about Death Valley reopening after the flood damage from the remnants of Hurricane Hillary. The article stated that there still was water in lake in the valley but will likely be gone by the middle of November.

Donna looked to see what was open and planned a trip out to see Death Valley National Park the next day and we left two days later.

Some parts of Death Valley National Park are still closed while repairs are in progress.
