Mashpi Amagusa Reserve

Today we start later at 6am heading for the feeders in Mashpi Amagusa. We’ll be in the cloud forest again.

There was a big group of 10 and another group of two that we saw most of the previous days. It was a bit chaotic on the balcony, but with four guides spotting, very little was missed. A number of birds we hadn’t seen before. The fog got pretty bad at times, making photos not possible at times.

They had a separate area with the hummingbird feeders and an employee came out with some flowers while we were there and asked for volunteers. Donna volunteered, they put a flower in her hand and the hummingbirds came to eat.

Driving down the mountain to the restaurant, our guide spotted these Bronze-winged parrots.

Then we go to Mirador Guaycapi for lunch and a little more birding. We stopped here on the modified day 2.

Then our guide took us into Quito for drop off at 4 pm at our hotel. We got cleaned up and made it to the 6 pm information meeting for our Galápagos tour. We found out we’ll be meeting in the lobby at 4:20 am tomorrow morning.

Dinner was on your own, some folks were going to go out to a restaurant, but it was raining, and we’d had a long day already, so we elected to eat in the hotel restaurant.
