Alambi Hummingbird Paradise

Donna was sick overnight, throwing up several times. She’s had this reaction before when she has eaten something fried in oil that was used to fry shellfish, and shrimp was on the menu last night.

We were supposed to go to Zuro Loma Antpittas in the West Slope Cloud Forest and Old Nono Mindo Road, but we skipped them since we started too late.

We drove directly to the Mirador Guaycapi restaurant near Alambi Hummingbird Paradise and did some birding off their patio. It was still cool, so we also got some hot chocolate. They have hummingbird feeders and put out bananas for tanagers and other birds.

One of the benefits of going with a guide is they go to these places repeatedly and remember which birds they’ve seen. There is a Golden Quetzal that hangs out in a tree about 250 yards away from the patio and the guide managed to spot it through the foliage and get it in the scope for us. The photo below was taken with a cell phone through his scope.

We drove to Alambi Hummingbird Paradise for some birding and lunch. They also have numerous bird feeders. Donna was feeling a little better and ate some lunch. The hummingbirds make a humming sound with their wings beating, and the sound was constant while we were here, there were a lot of hummingbirds.

The hummingbirds are used to people, you can hold a feeder in your hand, they will come sit and eat.

They do have flowers planted in the viewing area and some of the hummingbirds were feeding on the flower nectar instead of the sugar water in the feeders.

We stay two nights at Sachatamia Lodge. Birding at feeders in the late afternoon, another 600 photos. It drizzled while we birded, but there were covered areas for us to take pictures from.

After we went back to the room to put cameras away and rest, it started rained cats and dogs. We got soaking wet shoes walking to the lodge from our room for dinner. The lodge had barn boots to walk back and use tomorrow for birding.

I started going through photos, but didn’t finish. I took nearly 1900 photos today, it will take some time to weed through them.
