St. Rémy day 1

Today is the first day of our bike trip. We need to meet the Trek Travel bus at the Avignon train station at 11 am.

We did some laundry before meeting the Trek tour at 11 am. Not every thing was dry by the time we had to pack up and leave. So packed some damp things to pull out and dry tonight. Made it over to the train station and met the bus by 10:45. They handed out day bags and full water bottles with our names on them while we waited a bit for everyone to arrive. There are 18 folks on the tour.

Then we drove 45 minutes to a winery for lunch of bread, cheese, strawberries and olive spreads and optional tasting of their wines. Then a safety briefing, bike fitting, a Garmin 1030 briefing, finally getting going at 3:10 pm. Donna is riding a Verve+ e-bike, I’m on a Domane SL7.

The ride was a nice introductory ride of 14 miles into St. Rémy from the south over the little Alps, which is a climb of 900 ft over a few miles. I stopped several times to take pictures. There is a Roman town just south of St. Rémy, Galanum, and the old city gate is right by the road.
