Nice to Arles

This morning we leave Nice, France and travel by bus to Arles, with a short stop at the Rhône American cemetery in Draguignan, France.

US troops participated in Operation Dragoon the liberation of southern France in August 1944.

There were a number of veterans in our group and they participated in a short wreath laying ceremony at the cemetery.

We ate lunch in the small town of Draguignan. Supposedly, St. George defeated a dragon near here, giving name to the town.

Then we rode the bus till nearly 4pm to Arles with one rest stop along the motorway. France sold off some of the tollways to a private company. The country made some calculations as to the value and predicted that there would be a little profit. The companies that bought them have made investments and now make quite a bit of profit off operating the tollways. The rest stops are very nice.

We boarded the boat in Arles, and had some free time before supper. After sitting in the bus much of the day, we went for a walk along the river to a park.
