Berlin day 3
Another slower start to our day. We walked to checkpoint Charlie and the museum there.
The museum is much larger than when I visited in 2011, but has removed the early stuff about Hitler and the rise of the Nazi party. It has added a lot about other repressive regimes around the world. No photos allowed in the museum.
Ate lunch at a Turkish Döner place nearby.
Then over to the Pergamon panorama. It’s a large cylindrical panorama that you can climb four floors up to be in the middle of it. It is projected on the walls. We visited Pergamon on our Turkey trip. The panorama is from a drone viewpoint, the Zeus Altar is on the right of the image.
Then we tried to catch a boat trip on the Spree river, but just missed the boat by two minutes.
So walked to St Nicholas church. This was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt by the East German government in the 1980s. It was never used as a church after being rebuilt. It is rather plain inside.
A fountain outside the church.
We went by St. Mary’s church and the Red City Hall on the way back to the hotel.
Found a place for dinner that wasn’t busy at all, found out later it was cash only.
We stopped at the ReWe grocery store to get OJ on the way back. It was a zoo with 50 people in line to checkout.
