Cats in Egypt
For those that enjoy cats, you can’t visit Egypt and not see and talk about the cats. This may be one of the places cats were domesticated. Ancient Egyptians revered cats and the Arabs also have a soft spot for them as Mohammed did.
There are street cats many places. This first one walked up to an Egyptian man and a Japanese woman sitting on the wall by the river when I was walking one evening. They asked me about taking the photo, so I chatted with them a bit. She was in Egypt teaching Japanese, and he was a student. I suspect you can make good money being a tour guide for Japanese tourists.
When we stopped for tea after walking through the market the second day of the tour, there were a number of cats running around under the tables. One decided he needed more attention and wanted a lap.
Cats also hang out at the tourist sites. Here is a kitten attracting attention at Philae Temple.
At the lunch we had at the farm house, several cats were running around under the table as we ate outside. They behaved themselves mostly and didn’t jump up on the table, though there was a little begging.
Otherwise the street cats mostly hung out by themselves, running away if you got too close.
