Half Moon Cay

We have been to Half Moon Cay in the past.

The wind was blowing some, but not enough to prevent tendering into the island. They are constructing a dock and several new buildings on the island, and are not quite half done. It will be nice to be able to dock instead of using tenders. We elected to go birding rather than going in the water, because of the wind and the waves stirring the sand up.

There are numerous trails through the island that you can walk on. They have built extra construction roads that often parallel the existing roads. You were not supposed to walk on the construction roads, but they often felt safer as there was little traffic and what traffic there was slower. The tour vehicles on the regular roads often exceeded the posted 10 mph speed limit.

We went to the plant nursery area that we saw the Bahama Woodstar at in 2022 to see if there was one there still. We did find one, but it seems to be molting.

While eating lunch on the island, the palm warblers came around to clean up under the tables.

We looked at the beach and saw that because of the construction, they have limited the swimming area. There were crane barges parked over some of the better snorkeling spots. This confirmed that we made the right decision to not get in the water.
