Half Moon Cay

Half Moon Cay is Holland America’s private island in the Bahamas. We have visited the island before on our cruise up the Amazon River and in 2019 on a cruise through the Pananama Canal.

The night before, the weather forecast is not looking good, chance of thunderstorms in the morning and then thunderstorms and high winds in the afternoon. We’ll try to go birding, probably won’t be able to get in the water due to lightening.

When the ship arrived, the winds were 32-35 knots, forecast to get worse making it unsafe to drop anchor and tendering would be difficult. The captain made the decision with the local harbor pilot to cancel the port call due to high winds and swell.
