Half Moon Cay

Half Moon Cay is Holland America’s private island in the Bahamas.

We first went looking for birds with a rather large group of seven. That’s a big group when you are single file on a trail at times. A large portion of the island is a wildlife sanctuary, so you can see some different birds here, but you can’t go to that part.

We saw a few new birds

A couple of professional photographers came on the other ship at Half Moon Cay, the New Statendam. They were looking for the Bahama Woodstar they had seen the previous week on another trip. It is a hummingbird with a purple throat patch.

We had brought our snorkel gear and chose to fit in a swim before lunch. We found a green turtle.

After lunch, we went out a second time and saw this flounder.

The ship had an early afternoon departure (2:30 pm) to make it to Port Everglades for disembarkation the next morning. I got a nice photo of a frigatebird as we left.

It was good day to relax and get some a little more swimming in before returning home.
