Royal Pavilion

In the morning we did an easy two-mile run and then did some laundry. In the afternoon, we walked down to the Royal Pavilion.

The Royal Pavilion was built starting in 1787 by the future King George IV. The outside looks Persian/Indian with the domes, while the inside is more in a Chinese influence.

King George IV sent a self-portrait to Pope Pius VII in 1818 when he was Prince Regent, the Pope had a mosaic of the portrait made which was completed in 1829. It got sold several times and was later bought by the Brighton Museum in 1873.

Queen Victoria didn’t like the pavilion and sold it to the city of Brighton in 1850. Since the late 1940s, the city has worked to restore it to what it looked like under King George IV.

Then we walked up to the tennis club and watched our nephew’s group tennis lesson. 21,000 steps today.
