We went out on the grounds in the morning before breakfast looking for birds.

We both got bit by something. Donna thinks it’s ants, but I have more on arms and hands than legs. She got bit the first day on her legs.

Around 11 am we got a ride over to the Black Orchid hotel near the town of Burrell Boom that is the starting point for our tour. The Black Orchid is the Belize National Flower.

We walked a kilometer into the town of Burrell Boom and ate at a local bakery. The town is pretty small, with a number of small churches. The food was tasty and inexpensive.

The hotel is along the river and there were cattle grazing on the other side of the river. When the guy in the canoe arrived, all the cattle headed down to him. I couldn’t see if he brought something for them or not.

It’s hot and humid here, we swam in the pool in the late afternoon and then got cleaned up and went to the initial group meeting and supper for the trip.
