San Ignacio Day 2

We walked through downtown San Ignacio to a park by the river to look for birds in the morning.

They were putting up Christmas decorations in town as we walked through. It’s interesting to see that the Christmas decorations look the same as something you’d see in the US, there isn’t a local flair.

In the late morning we met the van to go Cave tubing at Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch.

The adventure starts by carrying your tube across three streams, the last one requiring a rope for folks to hang onto. It took an hour to walk and get everyone across to the stat. Notice the log in back of the stream on the left of the photo.

Then we sat in the water to avoid mosquitoes while they lashed the tubes together. Donna got bitten by small fish. They seemed to like her mosquito bites. It hurt quite a bit, and she got out braving the mosquitos.

Then we tubed through two caves.

The guides swam and walked ahead and behind us guiding the large raft of 16 tubes tied together around the corners. They worked pretty hard when the water got fast.

We got stuck on the log sticking up in the crossing photo above and Donna was in the worst spot, her tube caught under the log. I got tipped out and everyone got out and pulled the tubes from under the log, so Donna could get out.

It was getting dark when we finished.
