Caye Caulker Day 2
Today is a mostly free day for us. We didn’t book a tour today.
We walked down to the start of the trail that I ran yesterday, so Donna could see it. We didn’t see too many birds, but did see the
We took the ferry across the split to the north island. This island is not as developed as the south island, but it does have several all-inclusive resorts on it.
The ferryman had told us there was a crocodile in the pond near Wild Beach. We looked for the crocodile, but didn’t see it.
We ate lunch at El Ben CabaƱas. It opened not that many years ago and looked really nice.
We walked along the waterfront there and saw this plover.
We came back to the hotel and rested a bit before going to the 4 pm stingray feeding at Iguana Reef Inn. An employee comes out with a bucket of fish and feeds them. The stingrays almost mob him, coming up to his knees. The stingrays will come up on your feet looking for fish.
The underside of the stingray is very soft. The top side is rough and collects and holds sand easily.
We also looked for the seahorses and found one this time.
We stayed for sunset
The next morning I went on a short run down to the south end again on the trail. I saw a Yellow-crowned Night Heron and a Rufus-necked Wood Rail, but couldn’t get a good picture of either with my phone.
When I got back I realized I had left my hat laying at the beach at Iguana Reef when I was taking sunset photos last night. I went back up there and my hat was still laying there. The guy cleaning up had noticed it, but not taken it over to the lost and found yet. It had rained overnight, so it was soaking wet.
We had a one-hour ferry ride, then a taxi ride to the airport. When we got to airport and found out our 3:30 flight was delayed for mechanical issues. So we switched to the 1:20 flight, which started boarding as she gave us our boarding passes. The 1:20 flight was delayed as well. Our flight to home was delayed because of the east coast storms.
