Pleneau Bay and Petermann Island

This morning we had a zodiac tour of Pleneau Bay, which traps icebergs that drift in, since it is shallow. We saw lots of blue ice, some crab eater seals and some Gentoo penguins.

We saw seals in the water.

We saw lots of glacial icebergs, this one looks like the Sydney opera house. The blue ice is Glacial. The flat thin white ice is frozen seawater, which freezes at -1.8° C.

Lunch was a BBQ on the back upper deck. It was a bit crowded, but warm enough. The kitchen and dining area is on deck 2, and this was deck 5. The staff hauled it all up there mostly using the outside stairs, as there is only one set of inside stairs to use.

Our second excursion of the day was Petermann Island, with both Gentoo and Adelie penguins.

It got sunnier as the afternoon went on with little wind, many people took the coats off for the walk up to the viewing point of the other side of the island. The mountains were fabulous with the sun on them.
