To Okavango Delta

We start early for the drive back to the Kasane International Airport for our flight out to the Okavango Delta region in two Cessna Caravans. The Okavango Delta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We land at the Khwai River Airport, which is a dirt airstrip.

Our program director decided that the next two days could be slower for us, so the wake-up time is 7 am, with breakfast at 7:30 and the game drive starting at 8 am.

To Kafue National Park

The wake-up call was at 6 am, leave for breakfast at 6:30 with your rolling bag packed. The housekeeping staff will take it to the trailer behind the jeep. We take our backpacks and camera bags to breakfast. There is time to run back to brush your teeth if you want.

Ngamo village

We start the day with a 6 am wake up and breakfast starting at 6:30 am. We didn’t sleep all that well, as there was something under our tent from 2-5 am, grunting. Talking with the guide that picked us up, he looked at the tracks and thought it was a honey badger.

Hwange National Park

Today we settle into the pattern that will repeat for the four different camps that we visit on this trip. We start the day with a 6 am wake-up call, but we can’t leave the tent till the guide comes back to take us to the breakfast area at 6:30 am. Then get in the safari jeeps for our morning game drive at 7 am.

It’s cool overnight, around 50 F in the morning when we get up.

To Hwange National Park

We flew Delta through Atlanta to Johannesburg, South Africa. It’s a 16-hour flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg in an Airbus 350. We arrived in the evening and got to the hotel next to the airport at 9 pm. We left the hotel at 7 am to fly to Victoria Falls. Our flights were uneventful.
